Therapeutic Recreation
Therapeutic Recreation is directed towards functional intervention, leisure education and participation opportunities. These processes support the goals of assisting patients to maximize their independence in leisure and improve their quality of life.

Location
Therapeutic Recreation is located on Level One in Rehabilitation Services. It is conveniently located just inside the Ambulatory Care entrance to the hospital, close to parking and Transhelp drop-off.
Hours of Operation
Monday to Friday from 8:30 – 4:30.
Services
At the Credit Valley Hospital, Therapeutic Recreationists work in the following areas:
- Inpatients (Rehabilitation, Continuing Care)
- Seniors Rehabilitation Day Hospital
Depending on your situation a Therapeutic Recreationist may:
- Assess current functional abilities (physical, cognitive, emotional and social), leisure interests and awareness of community leisure resources
- Promote abilities that enhance independence and make leisure participation possible
- Develop leisure skills and positive leisure attitudes
- Liaise with other members of the multidisciplinary team and/or community resources to assist in discharge planning
FAQ
Q: Who is referred for Therapeutic Recreation services?
A:
Patients on the Inpatient Rehabilitation and the Continuing Care Units do not require a referral to receive Therapeutic Recreation services. Patients on these units will be assessed and appropriate Therapeutic Recreation intervention will be determined. A medical doctor’s referral is required to attend Day Hospital, at which point involvement in Therapeutic Recreation will be determined.
