We believe that birth is a normal process. Our care is “patient/family centred”. This means that the needs of the mother, her baby and her family are at the center of care.
We believe that women and their families are partners with their health care providers. We encourage you to take an active part in your care. To help you make informed decisions, we will provide you with information and support.
Your health care team may include:

  • Registered nurses
  • Doctors
  • Lactation consultants
  • Social worker
  • Psychologist
  • Dietitians
  • Public health
  • Other community resources

CIRCUMCISION

Although circumcision is no longer viewed as medically necessary, many families choose to have their newborn male circumcised for religious or personal reasons. If you are interested in arranging for a circumcision, ask your family physician or nurse in hospital to help you arrange this procedure. Circumcisions are booked as an outpatient procedure generally before two months of age. This procedure is no longer covered under the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).

RHOGAM

Every pregnant woman who has a Rh negative blood type requires a Rhogam injection at approximately 28 weeks gestation. This appointment will be arranged for you by your delivering physician.

PRE-BIRTH CLASS

The Pre-Birth Class is available to patients registered to deliver at The Credit Valley Hospital. This class is booked approximately at 36 weeks gestation and includes hospital information and newborn teaching. Tours of Labour and Delivery Triage unit as well as the Postpartum Unit are included. This class is held Monday through Wednesday at 6:00 pm and 7:15 pm. The class is approximately one hour in length.
We will contact you to arrange this appointment once we have received your registration form from your delivering doctor.

PRE-SURGERY APPOINTMENT

All patients with pre-booked caesarean sections are required to attend a pre-surgery appointment. This appointment will be booked approximately one week prior to your surgery date by the obstetrician’s office. Information about anaesthesia and the surgery will be discussed. Blood tests required will be arranged for your upcoming surgery. You will be given an opportunity to ask any questions that you may have.
